PGMA leads 95th founding anniversary of Glan, Sarangani

GLAN, Sarangani -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Thursday congratulated residents and officials of this booming coastal town on their 95th founding anniversary and lauded their contribution towards strengthening trade and economic exchanges within the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

The President thanked Glan Mayor Enrique Yap Jr. in particular for spearheading the resumption of commerce and trade with Indonesia through the establishment of Customs Immigration Quarantine and Security (CIQS) One Stop Action Center (OSAC).

“We have a very important milestone: the establishment of your new one-stop-shop action center to serve the custom, immigration, quarantine and security needs of the BIMP-EAGA,” she said.

According to the President, the center will benefit the Jose Abad Santos-Glan-Sarangani Cooperation Triangle (JAGS-CT), the administration’s flagship project for the development and progress of Sarangani province.

The President noted that Glan is vital for the progress and smooth implementation of BIMP-EAGA because it is only 150 kilometers away or six hours by boat to the nearest town in Indonesia.

She cited Mayor Yap for his efforts to provide free hospitalization and education to his constituents. Indeed, she added, the mayor is using the town’s income wisely.

Mayor Yap told the President that the municipality of Glan  donated the land and constructed the building of CIQS-OSAC at a cost of P1 million.
