Palace sees genuine reconciliation after presidential inauguration

Malacanang today expressed hope that the inauguration of the next President will mark the start of genuine national reconciliation.

Deputy Spokesperson Rogelio Peyuan said in a press briefing the inauguration of the next Chief Executive will hopefully be “the beginning of a genuine national reconciliation after a long period of political divisiveness.”

Peyuan said that it is a continuing dream for the outgoing administration that all wounds will heal in due time after years of divisiveness

With the next President and Vice President expected to be proclaimed on Monday, Peyuan said that as a gesture of reconciliation, outgoing President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will extend her hand to the next Chief Executive.

“The President will surely do her rightful part and will definitely congratulate the winner immediately after the proclamation made by the national board of canvassers” he said.

Peyuan pointed out that it is President Arroyo’s desire to have a smooth transition and reconciliation.

“I will only surmise that the President will call on the entire nation to unite behind the new leadership which is the number one requirement of anybody taking over the helm of the administration,” Peyuan said. (OPS)
