Donaire win 'solidifies' Filipinos’ place in
boxing world, Malacañang says
Malacañang congratulated Nonito “The Filipino
Flash” Donaire for defending his International Boxing Federation (IBF) and
World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantam weight belts by winning over
Japanese Toshiaki Nishioka via a ninth round TKO at the Home Depot Center in
Carson City, California on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
Malacañang expressed its elation over
Donaire’s win through Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte during the
regular press briefing aired over government-run radio station dzRB Radyo ng
Bayan.
She said
Donaire's win solidified the Filipinos’ image as world-class boxers who
continue to bring fame and honor to Filipinos.
“So hindi
lamang Manny Pacquiao, meron din tayong Nonito Donaire at yung iba pang rising
Filipino boxing stars na nagdadala ng karangalan sa ating bansa,” Valte said
referring to the Saranggani Representative who holds eight world championship
