Aquino receives P10-M pledge of commitment from Metrobank group
President Benigno S. Aquino III received 10 million peso-worth pledge of commitment from a Chinese-Filipino conglomerate which will fund a gift-giving activity in line with the celebration of the Chinese New Year IN February this year.
In a simple turnover ceremony on Tuesday at the Music Room of MalacaƱang Palace, the President received from Metrobank Group Chairman Dr. George S. K. Ty the donation from the Metrobank Group through its social responsibility arm, Metrobank Foundation in the form of a pledge.
Dubbed as “Bags of Blessings”, the gift-giving project will be spearheaded by Metrobank Group in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) where bags of goods will be distributed to the chosen 10,000 marginalized families. The recipients include victims of the recent calamities causing floods and landslides in the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas and some provinces in Mindanao.
The actual week-long distribution of “Bags of Blessings” will start on February 4 until February 10.
Various branches of Metrobank together with the DSWD will disseminate the food packs to the underprivileged families and victims of floods and landslides in Luzon, Visayas, Minadanao and the National Capital Region (NCR).
Also present during the turnover rites were DSWD Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman, Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry president Alfonso Uy, Metrobank Chairman Dr. Antonio Abacan, Jr., Metrobank President Arthur Uy, Metrobank Foundation president Aniceto SobrepeƱa, Metrobank Foundation and Federal and president Alfred Ty, president of Federaland. Aquino to attend LP’s 65th anniversary
President Benigno S. Aquino III will grace the 65th Founding Anniversary celebration of the Liberal Party on Wednesday (Jan. 19) at the President Corazon Aquino Hall of Club Filipino in San Juan.
This year’s celebration has the theme “The Future is Now! Change is Now” to give credit to the party’s triumph in last year’s Presidential elections.
Former senator Mar Roxas, the party’s president, will present to the Chief Executive the new set of party officers.
President Aquino is a leading member of the country’s second-oldest political party in terms of establishment and the oldest active political party in the country.
He currently holds the position of Vice Chairman of the party, having assumed the post on 17 March 2006. He was previously Secretary General of the party (1999-2002), Vice-President for Luzon (2002-2004), and Secretary General (2004-16 March 2006).
The Liberal Party was founded on Jan. 19, 1946 by Manuel Roxas, the first President of the Third Philippine Republic. It was formed by Pres. Roxas from what was once the “Liberal Wing” of the old Nacionalista Party. (PCOO)
