Malacanang
congratulates Donaire for knockout victory over Mexican opponent
Malacañang congratulated Nonito “Filipino
Flash” Donaire for his knockout victory over Mexican Jorge Arce in the closing
seconds of the third round of their World Boxing Organization Super
Bantamweight title bout at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on Saturday
(Sunday in Manila).
Deputy
Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in an interview aired over
state-run government radio station dzRB Radyo ng Bayan on Sunday that Donaire’s
win somehow made up for the loss of fellow Filipino boxing superstar Emmanuel
Pacquiao who lost to Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez last December 9.
So Mr. Donaire has
successfully defended his WBO Super Bantamweight crown,” Valte said.
“Masaya
Manny Pacquiao kay Juan Manuel Marquez ,” she added.
“So it’s
a welcome victory not just for Filipino sports fans but for all Filipinos,”
Valte said. PND (rck)
