Aquino vows continuing support to police, military
President Benigno S. Aquino III assured the members of the police and the military for continuing support of the government for their needs, particularly modern equipment and arms to do their jobs more effectively.
In a speech during the 48th foundation anniversary and alumni homecoming of the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP) in Makati City Friday night, he made a commitment to give law enforcers and security personnel the equipment they need from battle ship to helicopters as well as sophisticated firearms.
For instance, the President mentioned the Hamilton Class Cutter from the US which is set to arrive in the country within a week. With the arrival of the new ship, the government expects to boost its maritime patrol capability.
There will also be capability upgrades and modernization of the equipment of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) like the delivery of brand new choppers, patrol craft, and arms that the President said symbolizes the government’s recognition of the police and the military’s dedication to service.
Aside from giving the police and military equipment, the President said his administration also released 4,000 certificate of entitlement to lot allocation to the members of the police and military last month.
The government will expand the coverage of the housing program to Visayas and Mindanao, he said. The program will also include members of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and Bureau of Fire Protection, the chief executive said.
At the same time, the President expressed optimism about the country’s condition saying there’s a better future that lies ahead for Filipinos with the reforms that his administration has initiated.
The National Defense College of the Philippines, the country’s leading institution on defense and security education, training and research, celebrated its 48th foundation anniversary on August 12, 2011 with the theme “Security Leaders at the Forefront of National Convergence and Development.”

Aquino vows commitment to attain peace in the country, ensure national sovereignty
President Benigno S. Aquino III renewed his commitment to attain peace in the country as well as to ensure national security from foreign threats.
Speaking Friday in Makati City before the alumni of the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP), celebrating its 48th foundation anniversary, the President said it is his mandate to defend the interests of the Filipino people from terrorism, local violence and threats from foreign powers.
“Kapag sinabi nating soberenya, walang puwedeng mang-angkin ng mga islang sa atin naman talaga,” the President said referring to the West Philippine Sea issue.
The President mentioned his recent meeting with Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Chair Al Haj Murad Ibrahim in Japan saying that despite some criticisms what is important is the attainment of peace in Mindanao.
The meeting is a big leap so that the country could put an end to Muslim rebellion in Mindanao which has devastated the region for decades, he said.
With continuing talks between the government and MILF panels, the President expressed optimism that in the near future communities in Mindanao ravaged by conflict will eventually move towards progress.
The President's meeting with the MILF leader as well as other high ranking officials of the rebel group last week in Japan was aimed at showing the government’s sincerity in pursuing the ongoing peace talks and at the same time fast track the negotiations.
Government chief negotiator Marvic Leonen said both sides were expected to discuss the significant agenda in the upcoming formal talks this August 22 to 24 following the meeting of the President and Murad in Japan.(PCOO)
