Aquino says Department of Energy assures that there is adequate supply of power

President Benigno S. Aquino III says the Department of Energy assures adequate power supply on election day after probe into power outage that struck Luzon on Wednesday.

President Benigno S. Aquino III said on Thursday that the Department of Energy has assured him and the entire Filipino people of adequate power supply come election day on May 13 after its probe of the power outage that struck a large portion of the Luzon island into darkness on Wednesday.

The President said at a press briefing after a political rally for local Liberal Party bets held at the Quirino Elementary School Multi-Purpose Building in Quezon City that the DoE conducted a thorough inventory “down to the last nut and bolt” after yesterday’s power interruption and found no major problems with its power generating plants.

Sabi niya (Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla) pa raw to describe it --- talagang inimbentaryo nila down to the last nut and bolt para ma-check nga na hindi mangyari ito ulit,” the President said.

“Merong something to do with certain switches na ... didn't kick in when they should have kicked in. Mas technical... sila na lang ang magpapaliwanag. Pero dahil nga doon sa lahat ng pag-imbentaryo na ginawa nila ay lalo tumaas ang (kanilang) confidence, saying availability of electricity nationwide will be there for election day,” he added.

He stressed he had no intention to postpone the holding of the elections on Monday and was raring to have the electoral process finished in order to focus on more pressing problems facing the country.

PND (rck)

President Aquino satisfied with election preparations

President Benigno S. Aquino III expressed satisfaction on Thursday over the government’s preparations for Monday’s (May 13) midterm election particularly the armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP).

He said the AFP and the PNP were able to carry out his instructions to instill the rule of law on loose firearms and private armies in 15 provinces deemed electoral hotspots.

PND (rck)
