P-Noy to lead 43rd ASEAN Foundation Anniversary on Monday
President Benigno S. Aquino III will be the guest of honor and speaker during the 43rd foundation anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on Monday (Aug. 9) at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) along Roxas Boulevard, Manila.
The Chief Executive will lead the launching of the ASEAN Charter in Filipino.
The original English version of the ASEAN charter was signed during the annual summit of member nations in Singapore on November 2007.
The document has transformed ASEAN into a more effective and rules-based and rules-bound organization which is now closer to integration since its establishment with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration on August 8, 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The ASEAN Charter in Filipino will also be presented to the President by Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo to be witnessed by the ambassadors of the ASEAN member nations and ASEAN-Philippines director general Victoria Bataclan.
Part of the activity on Monday will be the raising of the ASEAN flag and opening of the ASEAN Centre of Biodiversity exhibit at the lobby of the DFA.
ASEAN is composed of 10-member-states namely, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
