Aquino joins nation in observance of the Lenten season; Reminds Filipinos of sacrifices of Christ to save mankind
President Benigno S. Aquino III joined the nation in the observance of the Lenten season as he reminded the citizenry of the great atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the sins of mankind.
"Ipinapaalala ng Semana Santa ang wagas na pagmamahal sa atin ng Diyos, at patuloy na itinuturo sa atin ang landas tungo sa kaligtasan. Sa kaniyang pagsasakatawang-tao nagsilbi siyang bukal ng pag-asa sa nakakarami, inilayo ang sarili sa tukso, at mag-isang pinasan ang kalbaryo kapalit man ay ang kaniyang buhay," the President said in his Lenten message.
The Chief Executive emphasized that one of the great messages of the Holy Week celebration is sacrifice.
President Aquino said that many Filipinos had already offered sweat, blood and sacrifice to save the country and the Filipinos from corruption and poverty.
"Tungkulin natin ngayon na ipagpatuloy ang kanilang sinimulan upang ganap na nating maiwaksi ang baluktot na sistema," he said.
The President is glad that the Filipino people is on the side of his administration to push for reforms in a bid to eradicate corruption and alleviate poverty.
"Ngayong maliwanag na kakampi ng taumbayan ang pamahalaan sa pagdudulot ng mga reporma, tinatapos na natin ang paghahari ng mga asal-Herodes sa katungkulan, at pinapanagot ang mga Hudas sa tiwala ng publiko," he said.
He also called on the Catholic faithful to stand firm on our faith and to obey God's will.
"Tulad ni Kristo, nawa’y maging kaakibat ng ating mga panata at panalangin, ang pagtutok sa kapakanan ng mas nangangailangan. Mananatiling siya ang ating gabay sa pagharap sa mga pagsubok ng tinatahak nating tuwid na landas," he said. (PCOO)
